Achsa Griffin Jewett B: 5-13-1833 D: 4-23-1912 Married: Col. Albert Burton Jewett B: 3-20-1829 D: 3-6-1887 Children: George Albert Jewett B: 3-25-1861 D: 11-3-1880 Frances Jewett Gould B: 1-12-1852 D: 5-31-1871 Married Gould J. Azro 12-13-1869 was married in Holy Trinity Church by Fr. John B. Pitman. Achsa Griffin Jewett was very supportive of Swanton community events. In her will she left money to support the initial building of the Swanton Library. Colonel Albert Jewett was born in Swanton, Vermont. He was the son of Eleazer Jewett and Dorothy Abel who are buried in St. Albans Bay Cemetery. He married Achsa Griffin on March 20, 1851. Mr. Jewett enlisted for the Civil War as 1st Lieutenant of Co. A, 1st Regiment Volunteers. He also served as Colonel of the 10th Vermont Volunteers, Soon after leaving the service he became interested in the proposed St. Johnsbury and Lake Champlain Railroad. He was Superintendent of the road until it was sold to the Boston and Maine Railroad. They lived in Swanton, where he died on March 6, 1887. | |
